Chemical suppliers has been supplying Petroleum Resin for the use in the paint, printing ink, adhesives and rubber industry. Its diverse use makes it a useful chemical item in the chemical industry. Main purpose for using petroleum resin is for improving tackiness effect to the final product.
Petroleum Resin are the aliphatic copolymerization and aromatic hydrocarbon resin made from the continuous polymerization of C5/C9 fraction derived from the stream cracking process of petro-chemical raw materials.
Characteristics of petroleum resin include:
Petroleum resins has a pale yellow to clear appearance with a softening point ranging from 70°C to 135°C (JIS K-2207). The colour Gardner (ASTM D-1544) is about 7 while the Bromine number (Br2g/100g, JIS K-2543) ranges from 20 to 45. The exact value of each item will depend on the chemicals suppliers grade chosen. Though the above values are the typical values that you would find in most Petroleum Resin products, the choice of the grade will depend on the typical application like paint, printing ink, adhesives or rubber industrial application and the kind of properties that is expected from the end product.
Petroleum resins are soluble in many solvents. Typical solubility in the following solvents:
Other compatible solvents solubility includes:
The use of Petroleum Resin chemical suppliers in the following areas provides the application of this chemical material.
Paints and Coatings
It is used widely as a compounding materials to the vehicles of oily anti-corrosive coating, alkyd-based enamel and aluminium paint. The Petroleum Resin chemicals are greatly useful for the improvements in coating properties such as dryness, glossiness, hardness and resistance to acids, alkalis and water.
Printing Ink
It is utilised as modifiers of the vehicles of newspapers, movable type offset and gravure printing ink on account of its ready solubility to solvents of petroleum series by combined use with linseed oil, stand oil, limed rosin and rosin-modified resins. It is fast drying and capable of producing highly brilliant print.
Adhesives
Petroleum Resin provides good tackiness to the adhesive. In adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesive tapes, petroleum resin exhibit excellent cohesive force. Petroleum Resin is also applied as compounding agents for hot melt adhesives due to its good heat stability.
Rubber
The effectives as a tackifier, good softening agent and reinforcing agent for the compounds of natural and synthetic rubber, in particular to Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR).
Others
Because of its excellent solubility, compatibility and chemical and water resistance, Petroleum Resin usage is expanding in scope and part of the compounding and modifying materials in various applied fields.
Petroleum Resins is now being used for example as blending agents for insulating varnish and floor tiles, releasing agents for concrete panels and waterproof dipping agents for paper or wood.
