Calcium Carbonate Sources

Most of us are not aware of the calcium carbonate sources. However, this mineral is available in abundant sources from just about anywhere. What makes it different is the form and structure from each source it was derived from and also after additionally processing it to make it usable in its intended use.

Calcium carbonate can be found in just about anywhere. From the white cliffs of Dover in England, it consist of calcium carbonate in the form of chalk which was use in schools of yesteryears, though now it is made mainly from calcium sulphate otherwise known as gymsum.

If you go down to the Mediterranean in Southern Europe, the ruins, statues of Greek and Rome were made from marble, which is another of form of calcium carbonate. Marbles come in a variety of types ranging from the pure snow-white grades containing transparent granules to those with gold, pink, green and other marbling patterns. These coloured patterns arise from the presence in the calcium carbonate of iron and other impurities. Chemically speaking, these marbles are considered poor quality, though as a decorative base element it becomes invaluable and priceless depending on whose hands it falls into to mould into the finest quality of art. Marble is generally a somewhat soft material and therefore it is easy to sculp.

Going down to Cairo and traveling down to the Pyramid of Gizeh, the pyramids are themselves made from blocks of sandstone with their surface covered with white limestone. Limestone is also a type of calcium carbonate. Many of the articles that are buried in the pyramids, such as vase, statues and toilet articles made from a milky translucent calcium carbonate called alabaster.

Fashion accessories such as pearls worn by ladies of leisure are also a form up of calcium carbonate made by the secretion of oyster. Marine shells, clams, etc are also another form of calcium carbonate, which when ground into calcium carbonate powder are made into chitosan products which are supposedly has the ability to reduce weight when ingested. Though it sounds dubious many of the medical claims made such as dissolving pearl and drinking its content will aid and enhance your health, but many people still do it to this day even though chemically it just consist of calcium carbonate.

The purest of calcium carbonate powder source would be from limestone, because of its compact and pure nature, it is very hard, not good for decorative purpose however, it is a good source for further processing to make the industrial calcium carbonate powder.

After calcining in a kiln it is hydrated and then reacted with carbon dioxide to produce precipitated calcium carbonate powder.

Classification of calcium carbonate manufacturer falls in the following way:
